CSAGSI President's Message

Joseph Hartzel, President CSAGSI

August 2000

Dear members,

This summer has been very active with ethnic festivals and other activities. I hope all had an opportunity to attend at least one of the ethnic events mentioned in our last newsletter. One event that CSAGSI takes an active role in is the Czechoslovak American Congress's picnic. Once again the picnic had about 500+ people in attendance. At least 100 of the people were children 12 years of age or younger. Our society's duty was the sale of bakery goods. Member Sharon Davis is in charge of this for us and does a great job getting people to volunteer. I would like to thank all who helped at the table.
In the past I have asked all to get the younger generation involved with Czech & Slovak organizations or at least get them to attend some functions. This past weekend my nephew Britt (9 years old) gave up his busy active Sunday to help CSAGSI at the Bakery Sales booth at the Czechoslovak American Congress picnic. Being a nine-year-old boy once myself I know that giving up anytime to work a sales table is no joy. From the smile on his face I can tell he had a good time. In addition from the comments from his coworkers and others he was extremely helpful with sales and carrying items for people and was a joy to be around. Needless to say I was very proud of Britt. For a 2nd consecutive year my other nephew Matthew (5 years old) performed with the United Moravian Society's dance group at the picnic. Matthew, once again, did a great job. With nephews like this I can be assured that our ethnic pride and traditions will live on.

Nazdar,
Joe Hartzel
