President’s Last Message
Fellow members,
It has been my pleasure to serve as your president for the last four years. I have tried to live up to your expectations. I knew I had large shoes to fill following our founding president, Joe Hartzel.
Our treasury is still relatively the same as when I accepted this office, even though we have had several large and unexpected expenses to cover. We will continue to have these unforeseen expenses from time to time, so I feel comfortable when we have “rainy day” money in the bank. We did increase the size of our library facility, while incurring a healthy rent increase. We have digitized the 116.000+ burial records of Bohemian National Cemetery. Those records are being checked for errors, and the index we are creating will be out during our next president’s term.
My biggest disappointment is that I have been unsuccessful in recruiting new volunteers willing to accept the responsibility to keep our Society moving forward. It is true that we currently have many volunteers who have worked tirelessly on our projects and our Conferences, Workshops, and Christmas parties; however, the basic core of Officers and Directors is still pretty much the same as it was 10 years ago. We need volunteers to step up and become committee CHAIRS, as well as officers and directors of our Society in order to promote new ideas and new goals to keep us healthy and progressive in the future.
I wish I had the space to list every volunteer who has assisted our Society and me during these last four years, but space is limited. I do want to thank all of you for your help, your diligence in seeing the work come to term, and for all those little things you do that make the big things work out. THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING!!!
While I will not be your president, I will be a director for the next four years, and will continue to work for the best interests of our Society.
Bill
