CSAGSI President's Message

Bill Hosna, President CSAGSI

December 2004

Hello members,

I hope all of you had a very merry Christmas with your families and friends. What a wonderful season Christmas is!

Our Society’s Christmas Party at Bohemian Crystal on Saint Nicholas evening was a huge success, thanks to our hard working and dedicated Christmas Party Committee of volunteers. One hundred sixty people had a wonderful evening of delicious food, great entertainment, and a visit from Svaty Mikulas himself, along with the Angel and Devil. I am sorry that we had to turn members away because the maximum capacity of the restaurant is 160. I reminded you at the last meeting to register early.

The new year of 2005 is upon us already and our Society is looking forward to it. We have secured a new meeting place for all of our 2005 meetings through the efforts of our Vice-president and Library Chair, Paul Nemecek. He was instrumental in obtaining his church’s meeting room for our meetings for a very reasonable fee. It has all of the things we need to conduct our meetings. It is in La Grange, near the Burlington Railroad station.

Our meetings for the coming year will be held in the lower level meeting room of the “FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OF LA GRANGE” located at the corners of Ashland and Elm Streets. (See Yahoo! map below) This is 3 blocks south of the Burlington Railroad, (4 blocks south of Ogden Avenue) and 2 blocks west of La Grange road. Meeting dates are January 15, May 21, August 20, and October 15, 2005. Mark your calendars now, since all of you have received at least one in the last few days.

Do not forget that we are offering a one-day Genealogy Workshop on Saturday March 19, 2005. It will be at the College of Du Page’s Turner Conference Center. This is located in Glen Ellyn, just north of Butterfield Road. Excellent speakers have already been confirmed. You should have already received a registration form in the last Koreny. Please read it carefully and mail it in ASAP. Please do not be late in sending it in if you plan on attending. We do not want to turn people away as we had to at the Christmas Party.

We will be holding elections at our May meeting for most of our officers who have already served their two terms. If you are interested in taking an active part in our Society and wish to be elected as one of our future officers, please contact us so we may put your name on the ballot. Nominations are being taken NOW. You must be a member in good standing for at least 1 year to be eligible.

I wish all of you good health, success in your genealogy endeavors, and my best wishes for a happy 2005.

I expect to see most of you in La Grange on January 15, 2005.

Bill
