CSAGSI President's Message

Bill Hosna, President CSAGSI

January 2003

Hello to all CSAGSI members

I hope all of you are having or have had a wonderful celebration with your families during the holiday season.
The New Year 2003 is now here and I am looking forward to it being a wonderful year for the CSAGSI and its members. Our first meeting is on Saturday, January 18, 2003. We will be having our bi-annual all day Genealogy Conference on March 29, 2003 at the William Tell Holiday Inn in Countryside, IL. Plan to attend, if you are able. Leo Baca will be our featured speaker.
We are now current with the Koreny mailings and I am confident our new editor, Jill Spealman, will keep us current. Expect the next Koreny to arrive in March of 2003.
I believe we are meeting the needs of our members here in the Chicago area with our quarterly meetings, our Library, our Christmas Party, and our publications. However, I am concerned that we may not be meeting the needs of our members who do not live in the Chicago area. Currently we have a 60/40 mix of Chicago area members versus out of area members. I would appreciate suggestions and feedback from our out of area members as to what you would like us to provide for you. (As an example of meeting out of area members needs, we have recently provided a form for you to get information by mail from Bohemian National Cemetery. Feedback has been very positive. In addition, Mary Ellen Panoch-Zuro is starting a new column for the Koreny about basic genealogy topics. Thank you, Mary Ellen!) You now receive four Newsletters and four Korenys per year. I feel badly that you are too far away to attend our meetings, as we have some excellent speakers and topics. It is a shame that you cannot access our Library and all of its research books, without coming to Chicago. Please let us know what more we, as a Genealogy Society, can do to help you find your ancestors through their Chicago area links. You may let me know by email at Hosna@att.net, or by writing to us at our Society’s address at: P.O. Box 313, Sugar Grove, IL 60554. We will do what we can to provide for your requests. I also believe our membership would be interested in knowing what Czech/Slovak festivals, events, happenings, etc. are going on in your area. Please let us know, so it may be included in the newsletter or Koreny. Your local Events may be advertised in the newsletter if we receive notice early enough to include them.

Sincerely,
Bill
