CSAGSI President's Message
June 2002
Fellow Members.
Sunday June 9th, the Lidice memorial program was held in the town of Crest Hill to honor the memory of those killed by the Nazis 60 years ago in the village of Lidice, Czech Republic. Our Society was well represented at the Memorial. My personal thanks to all of you who were able to attend.
On July 28th we will celebrate the 18th Annual Czechoslovak Festival Picnic at the Forest Preserve picnic grove just north of our meeting hall at 27th & Des Plaines Road. The usual goodies, potato pancakes, hot dogs, beer & soda, coffee & kolackys, ice cream, etc. will be there. Several Czechoslovak groups will provide entertainment and music for all. All children are welcome and various activities and amusements for them will be at the picnic grove.
The CSAGSI member response for the bus trip to the Cedar Rapids, IA Museum and the Czech Village was too small for us to sponsor it alone. The Berwyn Park District is now soliciting for persons interested in going. If they come up with a small group wanting to go, we will combine our groups. The Park district is proposing October 9th & 10th and estimating the cost to be about $110.00 for the bus, Hotel, and Museum Admission. Also, the Czechoslovak American Congress may have a trip going to the Cedar Rapids Museum only, for one day, in late September. We will keep you informed if you are one of the members who registered interest in going.
The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Washington, DC has recognized our Society (CSAGSI) to be the second largest non-profit genealogy group in the United States. Let us be proud of that fact, and continue to be a vital active society, by promoting our Czech & Slovak Heritage while searching for our ancestors.
The Czechoslovak Genealogical Society International with the Czech and Slovak Genealogy Society of Arizona are sponsoring a genealogy symposium this spring in Mesa, Arizona on February 21 & 22, 2003.
I hope all of you have had time to attend many of the festivals that were announced at our last meeting and I hope to see all of you at the Picnic on July 28th, and at our meeting on August 24.
Bill
