Activities for the year 2008 are well underway. About
100 member genealogists and friends attended the March Mini-Conference
"Emigration/Immigration of the Czechs and Slovaks into Illinois." Thank you to
the committee of volunteers, chaired by Evelyn Fergle, who coordinated this
important meeting.
The approaching Month of May begins with the exciting
festival "Czecho de Mayo". This event celebrates the 90th anniversary of the
visit of Thomas Masaryk's to Chicago in May, 1918. You will find information
about these accessible events in the March Newsletter. There also is an
article in the recent (March 2008) issue of the journal Koreny which includes
information about this historic visit of Thomas Masaryk.
Finally I remind you that a visit to the CSAGSI
Research Library in Cicero will pay you dividends of time well spent. The
library will be open April 12 and May 10. Come see us. Many displays and books
for you to peruse. I will share with you my favorite booklet on Chicago Czech
history.
Then on May 17th CSAGSI holds its meeting in LaGrange
featuring Susan Marcinkas on :"Czech & Slovak Cinema - A Reflection of History
and Culture". Ms. Marcinkus, who spoke to us in January 2007, has another
exemplary movie to thrill you. It is about Czechs and Slovaks in many familiar
movies.
