This CSAGSI conference will be an all-day event held at the William Tell Inn in Countryside, Illinois on Saturday, March 28th, 1998 from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.
The William Tell/Holiday Inn is located one mile north of the Stevenson Expressway (I-55) on Joliet Road in Countryside. Hotel rooms are available at the William Tell/Holiday Inn. To make hotel room reservations please call the William Tell/Holiday Inn at 708-354-4200.

2a. Loretto Szucs: They Became Americans, Finding Naturalization and Ethnic Origins
2b. Dr. Zdenek Hruban: Genealogy and Genetics
23. Pam Ruda: Hands on Egg Decorating Class (NOTE: Attendance to this session will be limited. More information available during check in).

12:00 p.m. - 1:15 p.m.
Lunch

1:15 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. Afternoon Cultural Program: Featuring the Moravian Cultural society Dancers and musician Richard “Riku” Proner, playing the Fujara (Slovak Shepherd’s Flute), as well as several other instruments. There will also be a special presentation of Kroje (ethnic folk costumes).

About the Speakers

Dr. Zdenek Hruban

Dr. Zdenek Hruban is a professor of Pathology. Born June 15, 1921 in Prerov, Czechoslovakia, Dr. Hruban entered Germany in 1948 and USA in 1951. He's earned an M.D. degree 1956, and Ph.D. in 1963 at the University of Chicago. Dr. Hruban is co-founder of the Archives of the Czechs and Slovaks Abroad 1971.



Carol A. Knigge

Carol A. Knigge is a free-lance genealogical researcher. She has been a family genealogist for over thirty years. Presently she is the co-owner of Folk Finders Genealogy Shop and gives genealogy classes at local libraries and schools. Carol publishes a quarterly magazine called German Folk and has produced several books, including Long Grove, Illinois Church Records, Vols. I & II.



Pamela Ruda

Pamela Ruda is a graduate of Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois and has been an active folk artist for many years. She originally learned the art of Czech egg decorating from her grandmother. From that starting point she learned other egg techniques, wheat weaving, embroidery, baking, etc., all with an eye toward the ethnic culture. Pam has been the president of the First Czechoslovak Garden Club of America, founded in 1935, the past two years.



Loretto Dennis Szucs, F.U.G.A.

Loretto Dennis Szucs, has been involved in genealogy for more than twenty-five years. Previously employed as an archives specialist for the National Archives, she is currently vice president of publishing for Ancestry, Inc. She has served on many genealogy societies governing boards and authored many genealogy related books and has won many awards and distinctions from various societies.
