About the Speakers

Duncan Gardiner, Ph.D., C.G.

Duncan Gardinar is author of "German Towns in Slovakia and Upper Hungary: A Genealogical Gazateer," and a number of family histories. He edits "Rocenka," the yearbook of the Czechoslovak Genealogical Society International. He has been a certified genealogist (C.G.) since 1991 and has made ten trips to the archives in the Czech and Slovak Republics researching several hundred ancestral lines of Czechs, Slovaks, Rusyns, Germans, and Hungarians. With a doctorate in Slavic Linguistics, he has taught college Russian and Czech and is proficient in Slovak, German, and French; and reads Polish, Latin, Serbo-Croation, and Hungarian.



Chris Miksanek

Chris Miksanek is the computer consultant for both the Czech and Slovak American Genealogy Society of Illinois and the Czechoslovak Genealogical Society International. He has presented Czech and Slovak computing topics at CGSI's last three annual conferences and in several other forums. He is also the author of several articles on Eastern European computer genealogy topics and has developed several computer programs for both Macintosh and IBM computer genealogists including CZECHitOut! a DOS Czech/English electronic dictionary.



Robert Baumruk

Robert Baumruk is teaching Czech language classes at Jan Neruda Czech School in Cicero, Illinois; Secretary of the Governing Board of T.G. Masaryk Czech School; Educational Director, Sokol Slavsky; Treasurer, Chicagoland Sokol Building Association; Vice President, Alliance of Czech Schools; Board Member and Education Chair of the Czech and Slovak American Genealogy Society of Illinois; Received an A.M. degree from the Graduate Library School, University of Chicago.
